Despite seemingly constant negative stories in the press and media about guns, rifle shooting in its various forms is an extremely popular sport in the UK.

There are many avenues open to the aspiring rifle owner. You may want to try target shooting in which case there are many disciplines to choose from. From old military rifles like the famous .303 Lee-Enfield and the K98 Mauser, which come with a real sense of history, scoped sporting rifles for club level shooting and stalking to the very latest F-class bench rest rifles capable of shooting tiny groups out to 1,000 yards and beyond.

You may need a rifle for controlling rabbits, corvids or foxes around a farm, golf course or stables. If this is the case, there are plenty of smaller so called 'varmint' calibres such as the .17HMR ,.17 Remington, .223 Remington or the new .204 Ruger.

Lastly, if you appreciate organic, totally free-range meat, you may wish to take up deer stalking. Deer numbers in the UK, especially fallow, have never been higher and now is the ideal time to try this growing pastime. There are many centres and country estates around the UK where you can go on an accompanied stalk for around £150.

In 2006, there were nearly 128,000 FACs covering just under 369,000 firearms in England and Wales and, in 2007, over 26,000 FACs covering nearly 67,000 guns in Scotland.

The more people who apply for and are granted FACs in the UK, the more represented we will all be and the safer the sport of shooting will be in the long term.

This site aims to give a good introduction to every aspect of rifle shooting so take a look around and enjoy!
After a shooting spree, they always want to take the guns away from the people who didn't do it. I sure as hell wouldn't want to live in a society where the only people allowed guns are the police and the military.
